An Adventure to Nepal’s Highest Trekking Peak:

Mera Peak (6,461m) stands as Nepal’s highest trekking peak and one of the most rewarding non-technical ascents in the Himalaya. The journey to Mera Peak is a gradual immersion into some of the most remote and unspoiled landscapes in eastern Nepal. After arriving in Lukla, the route heads east into quiet valleys far removed from the main Everest trails, where the pace of life slows and the mountains begin to feel vast and personal. The early days of the trek wind through forests of rhododendron and pine, crossing clear streams and terraced hillsides. You’ll pass through Sherpa and Rai villages where prayer flags flutter, and mani walls line the trail. These lower sections feel intimate and cultural, offering a strong sense of place before the terrain gradually opens and the scale of the landscape begins to change.

Entering the Hinku Valley, the trail follows a steady, well-paced approach that is ideal for acclimatisation. Each day brings subtle shifts in scenery – mossy forest floors give way to open alpine meadows, rocky moraines, and eventually wide glacial basins carved by ice and time. Small seasonal herders’ settlements and summer yak pastures appear along the way, where local families still practice traditional transhumance, moving livestock with the seasons. Above Gondishung, a clearing reveals the ancient Lungsumgba Gompa, its weathered walls and faded rock paintings offering a quiet glimpse into the valley’s deep Buddhist heritage. As you climb higher, the sense of remoteness intensifies. Views open toward Peak 43 and the dramatic spires of Kusum Kanguru, while the great eastern Himalayan giants begin to appear on the horizon. The approach to Mera Glacier feels truly alpine – vast, white, and serene – setting the stage for summit day. Reaching the top at sunrise is the defining moment of the journey: Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, and Cho Oyu rise in a sweeping arc, one of the most spectacular panoramas in Nepal and a rare sight among Himalayan climbs.

With experienced guides, a carefully planned acclimatisation schedule, and a strong support team, the Mera Peak trek is perfectly suited to fit trekkers seeking their first Himalayan summit or a meaningful step into mountaineering.
